“The Avengers” Will Be In 3D…But There’s A Catch…

The Wrap is reporting that Disney and Marvel have ordered the producers of The Avengers to post-convert the film into 3D for it’s May 4th, 2012 release. In other news, I’ll be making a point of seeing the film in 2D.

Thor and Captain America were both released in 3D this past summer, and both were post converted. I saw Captain America in 2D, and it was far superior to the muddled, pop-out-book-esque experience I had with Thor. The problem with post-converted films is that they aren’t planned or story-boarded in 3D, and since the filmmakers don’t take advantage of the extra dimension they come off shoddy and lame. It doesn’t help that Avengers is directed by Joss Whedon, a man who is very talented but not exactly known for his visual flair.

I still have my fingers crossed for this movie, but I refuse to see it in 3D and support a post-converted release. I urge you all to do the same.

The Avengers hits theaters on May 4th, 2012.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on this one John, there is no way that I will be catching THE AVENGERS in 3D. It is pointless and an after-thought, why bother doing a post-film conversion, shoddy.

I had the exact same experience as you, I watched THOR in 3D and it irritated me thoughout the film. So much so, I made sure that CAPTAIN AMERICA was a 2D experience.

I will be doing the exact same thing in May 2012!
