“Avengers 2” Has Its Director!

Joss Whedon did a great job with Avengers, and all the parties involved reaped major benefits. Audiences got a thrilling action film with heart and laughs; Whedon raised his profile considerable and has drummed up enormous interest in his career; and Marvel and Disney earned themselves over a billion dollars.

So it’s no surprise to see Joss Whedon has been signed on to direct Avengers 2. The news comes straight from the mouth of Disney CEO Bob Iger, who shared this news with shareholders during a conference call earlier today.

Currently, Marvel has Iron Man 3 in production for a May 3, 2013 release.  Thor: The Dark World just began shooting and is scheduled to open on November 8, 2013 while Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for April 4, 2014.  Guardians of the Galaxy is slated for August 1, 2014, so don’t expect Avengers 2 to hit theaters until 2015 at the earliest.

We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.
