I think this is cool because I like Devin (Red Carpet Crash) and Matt (Mungle Show). Check it out…
North Texas film critics Devin Pike and Matt Mungle present “Reel Geniuses,” a fresh weekly look at new and upcoming movies and the people who make them, debuting Thursday, April 28, 2011.
Alongside the “uncommon” reviews Pike and Mungle will be delivering each week, viewers can expect fun, insightful interviews with actors, writers and directors from around the world – and right in the Geniuses’ backyard, with the cadre of talent living in the North Texas area. There’ll also be news and analysis from around the entertainment industry.
“Devin and I are alike in the mindset of ‘go big or go home’,” said “Reel Geniuses” co-host Matt Mungle. “We are certainly going full force with this show’s content and features, and refuse to follow a standard template. The key is to not think of this as a typical movie review program. We are sort of like a blind archer at the Olympics. We won’t set any records, but we will definitely keep the crowd alert.”
“Reel Geniuses” will be produced live weekly from the Livid Lobster studios in North Dallas, adding an element of spontaneity and excitement to an otherwise static show format. Live guest interviews will be one of the advantages to doing “Reel Geniuses” live instead of “to tape.” The live format will also allow viewers to submit questions and comments through chat, Twitter, or Skype calls. Occasionally, a live studio audience will also be present.
“Instead of a couple of critics sitting in a theater, relying on take after take to get the facts straight, Matt and I will roll the whole show without a safety net,” Devin Pike, “Reel Geniuses” co-host and executive producer, said of the live aspect of the show. “I’d be lying if we weren’t a little daunted by the task [of doing the program live], but it’s also really exhilarating, and we’re up to the challenge.”
The Livid Lobster network of shows (“GeekBeat,” “WebBeat,” “Wealth Nation”) is one of the most heavily-trafficked online video channels, with hundreds of viewers at any given time of the day. As the first entertainment-industry show on Livid Lobster, “Reel Geniuses” catapults into a high-visibility role from the first episode.
Viewers can watch “Reel Geniuses” live Thursday nights at 7:00 pm CT (8:00 pm ET / 5:00 pm PT) at http://ReelGeniuses.com, and stream a recorded version of the show on-demand later that evening. All of the shows will be archived for on-demand viewing at ReelGeniuses.com, and available for download at iTunes and other podcasting outlets.
