“Star Trek 2” Gets A Lousy Title

We all knew the sequel to JJ Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek wouldn’t simply be called Star Trek 2. There would certainly be a colon and a subtitle in there, just like all the other Trek films. Paramount has finally confirmed the sequel’s full title, and it’s incredibly disappointing:

Star Trek Into Darkness.

There’s no typo there. I didn’t forget the colon. It seems the title is actually a very short, very vague sentence, and it does little to raise my hopes for this film. After Super 8, Abrams’ Trek looks more and more like a fluke rather than a stroke of genius, and the continued involvement of screenwriters Orci and Kurtzman fills me with dread.

We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.

Star Trek Into Darkness is scheduled for release on May 17th, 2013.
