Interview by Kaleb Andrew Paul Wilson
Kaleb: What got you into acting?
Danielle: I was a really strange child who never slept much, so I spent the quiet hours in the middle of the night, sneaking downstairs to watch TV. We didn’t have cable, so I watched all these really old shows from the 50’s on the local channels. I fell in love with “I Married Dora”, “Burns and Allen”, “Jack Benny”… all these shows with really quirky, funny women. I wanted to be like them when I grew up. They were my first idols. Those women were the ones who taught me that laughing is always more attractive than being somber and mysterious.
Kaleb: How do you feel about doing a Sci-Fi show?
Danielle: Doing a Sci-fi show has been a secret dream of mine forever! My favorite movies are the Star Wars trilogy, The Aliens films…I am a huge science fiction fan and science buff. So this is right up my alley. I would love nothing more than an evening with Carl Sagan!
Kaleb: How is it working on a show based around a video game?
Danielle: It was a little bit challenging to make a show based around a game. The producers tried hard to honor the history of the game and it’s environments, but at the same time, the script had to have strong characters that were real people. Sometimes video games have the characters make choices that are all about forwarding them to the next battle. A movie has to round those characters out, and explore their relationships and feelings. That’s what’s truly compelling in a movie….the big guns were fun though!
Kaleb: Did you ever play any of the “Red Faction” games?
Danielle: I am a pretty big gamer, but have to admit I hadn’t played Red Faction until I got this movie. I loved it! (Blowing things up is a great way to unwind, LOL) I’m getting my copy of Armageddon next week!
Kaleb: How was it on set?
Danielle: Set was in Eastern Europe. So it was a culture shock for all of us…and very, very cold…just like Mars! We had some challenges, but it really was all for the best. The hardships that come with life on Mars were easy to portray, and we bonded as a cast in a way that I never have before on a movie. I mean it when I say that, Brian J. Smith, Kate Vernon, Devon Graye, Tamzin Merchant, Gordon Kennedy, Robert Patrick, Michael Nankin (our beloved director), Andrew Kreisberg (our brilliant writer) and Tom Lieber (Our producer) are my family now. We love each other to death!
Kaleb: Is there any of your co-workers you have taken a liking to?
Danielle: I love all my co-workers, and we each have a special bond. (I mean that! You had to be there in Europe with us to know just how much I mean that!)
Kaleb: What is the best thing about your work?
Danielle: Oh my gosh, I have the best job in the world. I get to play dress up for a living!
Kaleb: What is your favorite roles thus far?
Danielle: My favorite role thus far has to be Tess in Red Faction. She’s the perfect combination of smart, pretty, neurotic and funny!
Kaleb: What is your ideal role in the future?
Danielle: My ideal role in the future would be to continue on to series with Tess and see where she goes. I really feel like I got a great start with her, and would love to take her to the end.
Kaleb: How do you interact with your fans?
Danielle: I really enjoy interacting with fans. It is such a blessing to have the kind of job where people will let you know that they appreciate and enjoy your work. It’s especially fun to interact via twitter. It’s so instant! I respond to every person who takes the time out of their life to contact me. Otherwise, it would be denying a blessing. 🙂
