“The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra” Trailer Debuts

The Last Airbender is, frankly, one of the finest television programs ever produced. In my book, it’s right up there with MASH, Lost, Breaking Bad, The Wire, and Friday Night Lights.* We’re living in a Golden Age of Television, and Nickelodeon has premiered the trailer for their sequel to Last Airbender, entitled The Legend of Korra.

What can we gather from this footage? Well, for one, this brave new world and the people in it are much more technologically sophisticated. Flying bison still exist (Yip Yip!), and Aang is honored with a gigantic statue. The animation is crisp and gorgeous, and the action is just as skillfully choreographed as its predecessor.

The story is set 70 years after the events of the first series, and follows the new Avatar, Korra, as she seeks out an airbender in the United Republic, a city built by Aang and Zuko after the Great War. The new threat is a band of “Equalists,” a group dedicated to the eradication of all benders.

No air date has been set for the premier, but we’ll let you know as soon as it is.

*The less said about the abhorrent M Night Shymalan adaptation, the better. Unless you want a 10,000 word rant on the subject. If so, hey, e-mail me!
