“The Evil Dead” enlist Diablo Cody

As we reported the other day, Sam Raimi is prepping a remake of his beloved “Evil Dead” with first time director Fede Alvarez at the helm. Now we have further news: Diablo Cody, the screenwriter of Juno and Jennifer’s Body has agreed to rewrite Alvarez’s original draft.

Cody is a divisive figure for pop culture junkies, and fans of the original “Evil Dead” (which is available via Netflix Instant for the curious) will certainly express their skepticism. Personally I find Cody to be a strong writer, and it takes a strong directorial hand to present her work properly. Jason Reitman worked wonders with Juno, while Karyn Kusama botched Jennifer’s Body. I’m certainly intrigued, but Alvarez’s inexperience makes me a tad wary.
