“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” passes $1 billion box-office worldwide gross.

On July 2, 2011 the fourth film in the Johnny Depp leading Pirates of the Caribbean series, entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, at last crossed the line to become the 8th film the ever make $1 billion or more and the second film in the series following Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

The film has been in release for a mere 45 days and has grosses big bucks on an international scale, though domestically, it has yet to match the success of any previous entries in the series. Fans in the series will be proud to discover this place in the series’ history, as the success even further promises two sequels of which are already in the process of being planned and due to be filmed back-to-back as the second and third films in the series.
