Kevin Costner may join “Django Unchained”

According to Deadline, Kevin Costner is in talks to join Quentin Tarantino’s Slave-Revenge tale, Django Unchained. Costner is up for the role of Ace Woody, “sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.” Candyland is the lucrative club run by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie, the main villain of the piece. Jamie Foxx has signed as Django, a freed slave turned bounty hunter who hunts down Candie in order to free his long lost wife.

Back before Kill Bill went into full production Costner was approached to play Bill, and DiCaprio was up for the villainous Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds. It seems Tarantino is 2 for 2 when it comes to getting people who turned him down before, and after the brilliant Inglourious Basterds, I’m not surprised. The script for Django is superb, and with a strong cast and Tarantino’s refined eye, we’re in for a real treat when Django Unchained opens in December, 2012
