Cowboy Smoke Film Review ...
Sep 22, 2008, 15:26

Cowboy Smoke is a riveting film focusing on the highly controversial topic of illegal immigration. Things aren't always what they seem when Texas Rangers, cowboys, immigrants, smugglers, and a fugitive converge into each other's paths.

The story follows a series of events that starts with a tense shootout between fugitive Wesley Cash (Chad Mathews) and Texas Ranger Travis (Matt Johnston).

Enter a cowboy wannabe, Joe (Mike Lutz), who thinks he knows everything about being a cowboy from dressing like one to performing a mean quick draw on a video game at the convenience store where he works. In his quest to find a job being a real cowboy, he discovers it isn't as easy as he thought it would be, nor could he have imagined what would happen next.

Emotions run high as each naive character comes to a harsh realization of what is going on around them. They have to decide to take action or not. Their decisions weigh heavy on them. The final shootouts bring an unexpectedly surprising outcome to the story.

The opening credits were creative preceding a high quality filmed movie. The story flowed well and I loved the funny remarks from some of the characters. Make no mistake, this modern day quick draw cowboy tale brings plenty of risky scenes with outstanding acting from Mike Lutz, Matthew Johnston and Chad Mathews. There were also notable performances by Estella Perez (Elysa) and James Paul (Indio).

This movie captures the beautiful essence of Texas and it is enhanced by the selection of music that flows with a country flavor.

No matter what side of the fence or border you are on about the issues of illegal immigration, you should put this film on your list of movies to watch. It’s an entwined issue, which is more than just cut and dry.
