"A History of Violence", "Brokeback Mountain", and "Hustle and Flow" Win Big in Golden Icon Awards Announced by Travolta Family Entertainment


HOLLYWOOD March 4, 2005 – Timed to bridge the gap between the Grammy music awards and the Academy Awards for film achievement, the winners of the Golden Icon Awards were announced Friday March 3 by Travolta Family Entertainment ™.

Honoring accomplishments in Entertainment, Fashion, and Leisure, the Travolta Family Entertainment Golden Icon Awards offer honest celebration of the industry's top performances and products with a few playful awards woven in to the mix.

Winners for accomplishment in film were highlighted by Best Dramatic Film honors going to "A History of Violence", Best Actor honors to Heath Ledger for his role in "Brokeback Mountain", and Best Actress honors to Taraji P. Henson for her performance in "Hustle and Flow."

Other winners for film accomplishment included "Unleashed" winning for Best Action Film, "Wedding Crashers" winning Best Comedic Film, "RENT" winning Best Musical, and "Sky High" winning for Best Family Film.

On the playful side, nepotism was politely saluted with a special category for Best Performance by a Travolta for which Kelly Preston took home the award for her role in "Sky High." Preston is the wife of actor John Travolta of the entertainment family.

Citing that sometimes a great actor can be stuck in a project so bad that while their personal performance efforts deserve recognition but the overall rankness of the project prevents the term "Best" to be allowable, a good natured award was given to the "Least Bad Actor or Actress in a Bad Production." John Stamos was singled out for the award for his talented performance in the otherwise horrible television disaster "Jake in Progress."

Additional awards were handed out in television, music, travel, fashion, and related fields.
