Will David Fincher Send Brad Pitt “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”?

Disney has been flirting with David Fincher over an adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea for a few years now. The director has been busy shooting The Social Network and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo back to back, and now that he’s had a bit of a break and it seems Sony isn’t making any move toward his option on a Tattoo sequel Disney is giving him the green light.

Fincher is hoping to snag Brad Pitt for Ned Land, the film’s protagonist that encounter the mythic Captain Nemo, and that’s pretty exciting. Fincher and Pitt have a pretty great rapport, having worked together on Benjamin Button, Fight Club and Se7en. 20,000 Leagues will surely be a bit more family friendly, most likely set as a PG-13 actioner in a similar vein to the Pirates films Disney is so fond of. Maybe Disney will try and work in some synergy and get Depp to play Nemo.

We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.
