Tim Burton Enlists Robert Downey Jr For His “Pinocchio” Update

Remember when Robert Downey Jr. was cool and vital? Right after Iron Man the world was in awe, and the guy could do no wrong. Now, wrong seems to be all he’s capable of doing. First Sherlock Holmes, then Due Date, and now this disturbing news: a live action Pinocchio update directed by Tim Burton.

Ugh.

Ok, sorry, I just needed a minute.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story, and it seems Warner Brothers is prepping the project with Burton whose keen on directing once he’s finished with his Frankenweenie remake for Disney is complete (this is how creatively bankrupt Burton is! He’s remaking his own movies!). RDJ would play Gepetto, and I’m just going to assume that Pinocchio would be played by a CG creation intentionally designed to move like the stop-motion features Burton fetishizes so much.

No official deal is in place, and as you can tell by my tone I hope it all falls through, but we will keep you updated as this story develops.

  1. I’m not impressed with the writing on Movie Vine as of late. Yes, Tim Burton has been reaching to come up with anything good lately. Your opinion of actors’ and actresses’ abilities in roles, however, have been way off. Also, you seem to look for any crazy angle to bash a movie or TV show just to have something write about. It’s all become rather obnoxious and boring.

    1. Lori, most quality entertainment journalists mix the facts of their story with their opinion on the news going down. It’s a way for us to show the reader who we are as people, and not just mindless drones spewing information across the incredibly large blogosphere. It’s our way of setting ourselves apart. I’m sorry you don’t agree with my thoughts on RDJ, or any other actor/actress, but that really isn’t my problem. If you want a complete and impartial news source, I suggest bookmarking Deadline or Variety. They tend to give you “just the facts” and not much else. I enjoy a little spice with my food, so I tend to seek out bloggers and journos that give more than that. I have no hard feelings if you feel otherwise. “If you do feel like a little spice, however, I feel like reminding you of the old saying: If you’re dumb, surround yourself with smart people. If you’re smart, surround yourself with people who disagree with you.” You seem fairly smart, and you must admit that being surrounded by people who agree with you all the time would get “obnoxious and boring”. If I provoke mental stimuli that forces you to confront your feelings on RDJ or any other celebrities then I have done you a slight service by making you stand by your opinions. I’ve made you think, and that’s part of my job in the first place. I hope you stick around here, if only so you could continue to call me on my bullshit, thus forcing me to think hard and stand by my opinions and views as well.
