The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson’s take on cults and religions akin to Scientology, is just a few weeks from release and the advance word of mouth is insanely positive. The Weinstein Company has put out two new trailers for the film, a long one above and a condensed one here. Both of them have got me plenty excited.

The Master features Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the titular cult leader and Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams as his major disciples.

Here’s a synopsis:

A charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a faith-based organization following World War II. A drifter (Phoenix) becomes his right-hand man but as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the drifter finds himself questioning the belief system and his mentor.

The Master is scheduled for release on October 12th, 2012.
