God Help Us All: “Transformers” 4 and 5 Will be Shot Back to Back

I have a perfect memory of the first time I saw the original Transformers trailer. I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest at a midnight showing, and the teaser played before the film. My friends and I laughed so hard we were told to quiet down by a guy a few rows behind us. I guess Paramount is laughing now as they prep two more films for the robo-franchise.

Variety has the details on the next installments, and it seems director Michael Bay will be handing the reigns over to someone else after directing the last three Transformers films. Shia LaBeouf is also not returning, so Paramount is able to get a fresh face next to Optimus Prime on the poster. The studio hopes to snare Jason Statham, and to be honest that sounds like a good match. The studio will shoot the films back to back to cut down on costs, which I guess makes sense.

We’ll keep you updated as the story develops.
