"Transformers" is already being hyped as next year's biggest blockbuster movie. However, the backlash from Transformers and comic book fans over recent leaked movie images and off-color comments by producer Don Murphy directed at long-time fans has ignited one of the fiercest flame wars I've seen over a movie in a long time. Apparently some Dreamworks employees have been terminated over the leaks, and the whole production is scrambling to do "damage control" including a recent live web chat Q&A on Yahoo and a very premature "hype-fest" on MTV and Access Hollywood.
Producer Don Murphy's harried response to the backlash:

This one may be worth following. I don't recall ever seeing this kind of fan backlash this early into production on a high profile movie such as this. Even the fuss over "Star Wars Episode 1" didn't really kick into gear until after the movie premiered.
