Inspired by a true story, THE TRENCH tells the tale of a friendship formed in the dark days of World War 1. When young British soldier James Mitchell (O'Dea) gets lost in the fog after his unit charged the German line, he finds himself wandering in the dark alone and lost. Taking shelter in an old trench for the night and finds he's not alone, also living there is a 50 year old German officer.

After a shaky start both strike up a friendship and what you get is a wonderful story and a fantastic performance from O'Dea in the leading role, and when released I would not be surprised if there was a BAFTA buzz for the 32 year old Irishman.
